For a total amateur painter, The Weekend Artist is a great antisnob
approach to painting. I recommend it.

I'd like to buy it, but it goes against my new principle of trying to not buy physical goods when digital ones are available. But a drawing book would look terrible in the Kindle, so I guess I have to wait till Mr. Jobs releases the elusive Apple tablet (the Holy Graal of personal computing).

It's a great book, in that it gets you to create painting without getting too involved in theory or technique or anything that might stop the true novice from getting started. It's really like a painting cookbook, but the recipes, so to speak, allow for experimentation, and in the end, you have something you can hang on your wall.
Now, painting snobs will hate it. But as a fan of the "Dummies" books, I am all for having more people doing creative things, even in a limited manner, than only the really talented people doing them.
I think the Kindle is good for alot of things, but unless this book is in blog format, I recommend the book. You need to see the images in full color to be most effective.
