On the language of blogs

I think one of the reason I find myself reading more blogs by creative people and less and less blogs by political people is that the former use positive language and the latter negative. If you read blogs by creative people, you will see words like "creative", "inspired", "bright", "clever", "pretty"...the list can go on and on, but try it on a creative blog like Swiss Miss or any other creative or design oriented blog and you will see what I mean. Now read a political blog and you will see words like "disappointing", "failure", "stupid", hopeless"....etc. If you read one from time to time, it's ok. But the overall effect of reading political blogs is not a good one. I try to read them, learn something, and get out!

There are some exceptions: bloggers like Josh Marshall and Paul Krugman have a good sense of humour and use it to lighten up their blog. Andrew Sullivan is mostly serious, but he does include other, less serious stuff on his blog. But otherwise, I find reading political blogs wears on me.

Now, reading creative blogs just to be inspired can lose their impact if you read too many of them, too. But on the whole, I tend to want to read more of them and less of the political ones going forward. Or at least I will try. :)
