My simple rules for straightening up

1. Put away the biggest things first that easily store away.
2. Put away the rest of the things that easily store away.
3. Sort out what remains into groups.
4. Tackle each group, starting with the one that provides the most benefit
first.
5. Move quickly.
6. Give yourself a time limit.
7. Plan to tackle remaining groups as soon as you can.
8. Repeat! :)

#1. Rule for staightening up: (In the "Ideal World")
Put all objects/items (that you don't have the mental energy to decide what to do about) into a box & put box in basement.
(This does not include bills, financial statements etc.)
If after 1 month you have not had to retrieve any of said items/objects from this box then,
    a) donate the box to charity,
    b) place box on curb for garbage pick up,
    OR.....

    "Real World" Scenario:
    c) leave box in basement until you have accumulated so many boxes of miscellaney, minutiae, & mementos, that you are eligible to get yourself on a "reality T.V." show, where they will actually pay a, "professional organizer" to get rid of the crap that you were too lazy to deal with in the first place!
.....I happen to have a "few stacks" of such boxes sitting in my basement right now, and the prospect of opening them is just too scary to even think about!
.....Watch for me on the "Learning Channel"!
