Saved by twitter & kindness of people: my recent adventures at the Beast restaurant

What could have been a terrible night turned into a good one due to the use
of Twitter and the kindness of people.

Tonight I was heading down to Queen St West in Toronto. That gave me an
opportunity to dine at the Beast restaurant. As before (which I wrote
about), everything was superb. Sadly, though, when I went to get my wallet,
it was gone! Now I know I had it, because I used it on the subway. That
made me think it fell out of my coat pocket, and that put me in a
predicament, since I couldn't pay (something that last happened to me 25
years ago). Plus I was terribly embarrassed, since I I had enjoyed a lot of
food and wondered if they thought I was dining and dashing (I wasn't).

Lucky for me, the waitress and the staff couldn't have been nicer about it,
and after leaving something as a deposit, I headed off for home. I was
also lucky to have at least $3 in my pocket, which meant I could at least
get home on the subway. I looked in vain to see if I could see my wallet,
but if it were on the subway, it would truly be a needle in a haystack.

All the way home I was thinking of having to sit down and cancel all my
credit and banking cards. Plus I had lost my metropass (still worth $50)
and some gift cards and some cash in their too. The whole thing was
dreadful.

As I got to the subway exit, I asked the collector for lost and found
information. Just as I was doing that, my Blackberry went off, telling me I
had a message on twitter. Like me, the folks at the Beast are big twitter
users. They had sent me a DM saying I should come back, that they had found
my wallet! That was the best message I had received in some time!

Unfortunately I had left the subway, but the collector was kind enough to
let me go back without having to repay (I couldn't as I was broke). It
turned out that when I was in the restaurant, my coat had fallen on the
floor, and a women behind me picked it up and rehung it over my chair. But
in the process, my wallet must have fallen out and into her coat or purse.
She was kind enough to give it to the waitress and the Beast staff were
very kind and went out of their way to contact me. To top it off, when I
got there, they gave me a glass of prosecco on the house! Very kind,
indeed!

If that doesn't make you want to go to the Beast, then I don't know what
else to say. Even a vegan could go and have great wine in a superb place.
For you carnivores, you owe yourself a visit.

We all do acts of kindness, and often time we wonder, though fatigue or
lack of acknowledgement, whether or not it is worth it. Lots of people did
for me a number of acts of kindness, and I greatly appreciate it. I hope
you know that the acts of kindness you do are appreciated the same way.
Regardless of whether or not you use twitter to do them.
