How I use posterous, tumblr and wordpress (and Twitter!) (for @luciaorth, etc.)

On Twitter, Lucia (Orth, @luciaorth) asked about using Tumblr versus Wordpress. I tried but failed to explain how I use them. Here is a better answer, I hope.

I use Tumblr, Posterous and Wordpress in different ways. I use Wordpress (SmartPeopleIKnow.wordpress.com) to comment on things I read on the Web that are noteworthy. I use Firefox combined with a tool called ScribeFire that allows me to do this easily. I like Wordpress: I've been using it a long time, I am comfortable with it, and it has lots of features that I like. I also like the look of my blog. That's why I stay there.

I started using Tumblr as a second blog, but I found that I didn't like the experience as much. I never found a theme that I liked, and I found myself drifting back to Wordpress.

However, I still have a tumblelog (BernieMichalik.tumblr.com) and I use it to aggregate my feeds from Wordpress, Twitter and other places. It is like a one stop shop for everything I am doing on the web using social media. The content isn't original. Instead, it is a digest of what I am working on.

Recently I started using Posterous (BernieMichalik.posterous.com). I did that because I love the fact that I can email my blog posts. I use my Blackberry alot, and if I write an email, take a video, or snap a photo, posting it to Posterous is dead easy. Plus, Posterous has a great feature that allows me to easily propagate my posts there to other social media, like Twitter. If I write a blog post on Posterous, it is also dead easy to have it posted to Twitter, Wordpress, etc.  The ease of Posterous is why I love it. (Plus I like their themes better than Tumblr's).

I use other social media. I love Twitter. Facebook: not so much. And I think Blogger is fine, but I don't do too much there. I mostly stick with Wordpress, Posterous and Twitter.

I hope this is useful to you.
