The semiotics and economics of Asian sweet buns

I love these buns! In Toronto there are lots of places that sell these
brioche like breads stuffed with traditional asian and european fillings.
(I say they are Asian because all the propriators I've seen have been Asian
and because they lean towards Asian fillings, but in many ways they are
cosmopolitan, just like Toronto).

What I like also is that they are shaped and seeded uniquely, so all I have
to do is hold one up and the cashier knows I have the spicy chicken bun and
it cost $1.40. It doesn't need a label, and I think that is as smart as it
is delicious.
