On Grace
October 13 2011, 10:07 PM
When we see someone similar to us suffering, we may think: there but for
the grace of God go I. Or you may "say grace" at a meal, where you ask for
God's blessing, and therefore ask to stay in his good graces. Even for agnostics and atheists, I think the concept of grace is one they
should hold on to. If you can celebrate Thanksgiving and give thanks, then
you can ask for or experience the blessing of grace. For grace is a feeling we have and a concept we experience, just like
thankfulness is. I am often thankful for the good things in my life, even
if it is undirected thanks. It is a reflection of my appreciation. Likewise
today was a good day for me. Everything seemed to click in a positive way,
until finally at the end of the day I was running home on a cool autumn
evening while listening to Avro Part's "Spiegel im Spiegel" and I felt like
I was blessed. I felt as if I was in someone's good graces. I like the concept of grace, for it unites individual acts of goodness, and
helps us to see the greater goodness in the world, regardless of whether or
not you believe in God. At the very least, believe in the vast amount of
goodness to be had if you are receptive to it. For grace must be received
and accepted, and you would be wise to do both.
