On startup life, also known as parenting

A number of people I follow on twitter have recently become involved with
startups. They love their jobs, and they work all the time. It clearly
means a lot to them and they derive a lot of satisfaction from it, even as
they are giving up a lot of their lives to this commitment they have made.

Reading about startup life, I couldn't help but wish I could do that. Then
I remember why I can't: I am a parent. Even with my work it is a challenge
balancing work responsibilities and home responsibilities. Never mind
having the responsibilities of home ownership. It would be great to be part
of startup life, but it isn't possible.

But then I thought: what could be more startup life than parenting? It is
literally startup life. You start a new life and make an all in commitment
to be successful. And when all your sweat and tears and toil have been
added up, you have one (or more) great adults that you can point to as a
result. You won't have tons of cash, but your life will be rich.

Startup life is a great thing. So is being a parent.

Exactly! And, sooner or later, we have the "sense" to realize, that being rich has very little to do with how many dollars we have. ;)

Yes. Richness is not tied to money.
