Late thoughts on the night rain

When it rains at night, I could stay up until the dawn to enjoy the
experience of night rain. There is the sound of it, the dripping, drumming,
rhythmic quality to it. You can not only tell how much rain is falling but
what it falls upon. You can tell much from the sound of night rain.

The streets glisten from it. Car lights and store lights and street light
pour across pavement in reds and whites making rainy nights bright nights.

Rainy nights are solitary nights. You can walk around in peace, sheltered
beneath umbrellas while others peak out from curtains onto deserted
streets.

To me, rainy nights remind me of hungry nights. For I would love to walk
around the rainy streets of Halifax on many a night in college, and I
would peer in at dry patrons in diners, wishing for the cash necessary to
join them.

Rainy nights seem rare. Each one is a treasure.

Walking the solitary streets at night? Is this a Charles Dickens' inspired post? ;)
