We live in two Times
August 13 2012, 10:04 PM
Once, we lived in only one Time. A Time that was wild and unpredictable and
untamed. A Time that caused us to worry, to fear. We tried to tame this
Time with calendars and clocks. We tried to make it mild and predictable. We were fooled, and we are fooled still. For now there are two Times. The
one Time is Tamed. It marches to the tick tock of our clocks. It marches
through our days, our months, ours seasons. We think we have Time leashed
to our calendars. But it is only one Time. The other Time still races around madly when we are happy or fearful, and
lies around sullen when we are boring. It is the Time we lose track of, the
Time that goes before we know, the Time that is Up and Gone when we take it
for granted. It is the Time that suddenly stops when we think it is going
to go on and on, and Time we wonder: where did it go? It is a capricious
Time. We live in two Times, and since we do, we should wear two watches. One
would be clearly readable, and one would be merely obscure. That way we
would always know the Times, while being reminded that we never ever know
what Time it really is, or what Time we truly have. Thanks for reading this.
