My first work for #SundayArt: Test Pattern

For thos of you not familiar with Sunday Art, visit sundayArt.tumblr.com
for the details.

The theme for this week is Colour.

When i was small, TV channels would display a test pattern filled with
primary colours to allow people to adjust their new fangled TVs. Most of
colours weren't interesting to me, except two: cyan and magenta. I loved
the sound of them and I liked the way they looked. The two colours here are
cyan and magenta.

The other colour is brown. When i was a kid i got a box of Crayola crayons
(64!) And melted them in an old pot. I thought the result would be
something magical, some great new colour, or maybe a cool rainbow. Instead,
i discovered if you melt 64 crayons of different colours together, you get:
brown. Just like the brown here, which represents all the other colours.

I picked a test pattern as a subject because that's'what this painting is
in a way. I chance for me to test out working with paint and other
techniques and ideas without getting discouraged with something too hard to
do. I like that is is abstract and conceptual and yet still represents a
thing: a test pattern.

I like the Test Pattern. It's a fusion of art and technology.

This is a first painting for Sunday art and these are my some of my first
experiences with colour.

Finally, when i was really little the test pattern used to frighten me.
After the late show was the late late show (both movies) and i would try to
stay up and watch them since i hated to sleep. I would fall asleep anyway
and often everyone else would go to bed and leave me there. Once the last
movie was over the test pattern would appear along with a test sound that
would wake me up and i would be afraid because it was late and i was all by
myself! So in away, the test pattern was something scary too!

I hope you will join us in doing Sunday Art. Go see the tumblr for more
details.
